Performance Characteristics

Excellent Corrosion Resistance: Hastelloy C-276 is renowned for its exceptional corrosion resistance. It can withstand a wide range of highly corrosive chemical environments, including oxidizing and non-oxidizing acids. It is particularly resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion caused by chloride ions, even in high concentrations of hydrochloric and sulfuric acids.

Good Weldability: The alloy's low carbon and silicon content make it highly resistant to cracking and intergranular corrosion during welding. It can be welded using various methods, such as Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG), and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW/Stick).

High Strength and Toughness: C-276 offers high strength and excellent toughness, maintaining its performance in high-temperature and high-pressure applications. It is suitable for manufacturing components that need to withstand significant stress.

Manufacturing and Processing

Heat Treatment: The production of Hastelloy C-276 involves strict heat treatment processes to ensure optimal mechanical and corrosion-resistant properties. Typically, the material is heated to 980-1020°C for 1-1.5 hours, then raised to 1080-1120°C or 1100-1160°C for 15-16 hours, followed by air cooling.

Forging and Forming: The alloy can be forged, hot-rolled, and hot-extruded. Forging requires precise temperature control to maintain the material's toughness and strength.

Cold Working: C-276 can be cold-worked, but its work-hardening characteristics mean that multiple annealing steps may be necessary to restore the material's properties during processing.
